Anna-Maria qualified as a veterinarian from the Swedish University of Agriculture. After a couple of years working in a small animal clinic on the west coast of Sweden, she returned back to Uppsala in 2009. She started working at the National Veterinary Institute with questions such as disease surveillance, antimicrobial resistance, education and research. In 2017, she fulfilled her PhD in diagnostics and epidemiology. Since 2018, Anna-Maria has worked as the Hygiene Director of IVC Evidensia.
